Youth Empowerment Program provides a survey on “Research carried out on the problem of unemployment and unemployment has shown that the major cause is that youths lack employability skills. Employability skills are defined as skills required not only to gain employment, but also to progress within an enterprise so as to achieve ones potential and contribute successfully to enterprise strategic instructions. This programme is geared towards improving the employability of disadvantaged youths between the ages of 16 and 35. It equips them with life, employability, personal development and basic ICT skills. We also train youths on how to prepare and execute a business plan and then provide them loans as capital to commence. In addition to the training, the programme also seeks to place beneficiaries in jobs. These include paid employment, as well as volunteer and internship positions.

Background:
For the past years, the government of Cameroon has been strategizing to reduce the rate of unemployment in Cameroon. This can be seen in the many job opportunities that have been created. Also a national employment fund has been created to enhance employment.
However, despite the efforts put in place by the government of Cameroon, the unemployment rate still stands at 30%. This value includes both the unemployed and substantially unemployed. This ranks Cameroon 174 amongst 196 nations. (CIA world fact book) Recently there was a publication for an aptitude test for employment in one renowned company in the nation. The company wanted just 10 candidates to add to their staff. On the day of the interview, they had 6000 youths of ages 16-35. This group was made up of the underemployed, the unemployment, the literate and even the illiterates. This is an indication of the intensity of unemployment.
Majority of the population affected by this are youths of between 16-35 years. They are considered as the active population of the community. They cannot add value or participate actively in community development without economic power. It has proven that the rate of HIV/AIDS and other social ills such as crime is as a result of poverty due to unemployment and underemployment. Youths tend to engage themselves in bad social and moral behaviour in order to get livelihood.
Objectives:
To prepare 20 youths between ages 16-35 with the necessary skills for the job market every quarter of the year
Place these youths on volunteer and internship positions with atleast 15 being gainfully employed at the end of a quarter
To help these youths have a clear vision of their career goals by the end of each training session
To help 10 of these youths establish lucrative businesses of their own every half of the year
Milestones:
We organize workshops which last for two weeks where we equip 20 youths with employability, basic ICT, personal development life and business skills.
After the workshop, we provide them with career counselling so that they have a clear vision of their career goals, after which we place attach them to various coaches in the areas of their career goals. They work with the coaches during which they gain work based experiences and give a report of their progress.
