Background:
MERCY CHILDREN\'s CENTER & ORPHANAGE (M.C.C.O) started on 30th Jan.2009 and was established in Kabale Uganda by Butika K Ivanson who happens to be an orphan himself. Butika lost both parents in 1989. He grew up through the care of his grandmother in a village called \'Mparo\' Kabale district. He managed to acquire some education but later dropped out of school due to some financial problems as the grand mother could not afford high school fees. This forced Butika to take to the streets of Kampala where he spent almost 8 years trying to make ends meet. It was at this time that he met a lady called Emily who runs a Street Kids project and Ministry. She welcomed him to the Project and the rest was history.
Butika worked at this Project as a volunteer specializing in Music, Dance and Drama, thereafter a youth Coordinator and Project Coordinator respectively. This young man later got a calling from God to serve the disadvantaged children of Uganda starting in his home district of Kabale found in South Western Uganda. Together with other well wishers \"Mercy Children\'s Centre and Orphanage (M.C.C.O)\" was born .
Objectives:
1. To provide education to unprivileged children
2. Provide food through the feeding programmes
3. Provide Counseling Services and engage the Youth in skill building activities
4. Empower the girl child
5. Helping the disabled, orphans, destitute low income refugees & many more.
6. Promote and protect the child rights
7. Promote healthy living in the district
8. Provide medicine & treatment to the sick
Budget:
Our budget is between $9500 to $10000 every year.
Needs:
SHORT TERM NEEDS FOR MERCY CHILDREN\'S CENTER & ORPHANAGE
1. School fees, your monthly contribution of $45 a month will educate a child at the center
2. Food for children
3. Allowances for voluntary teachers & other workers e.g cleaners, cooks etc.
4. Classroom furniture
5. Medical care services
6. Children\'s uniforms/clothing
7. School supplies and children\'s shoes
8. Rent, Classroom building and teacher\'s accomodation
LONG TERM NEEDS AT MERCY CHILDREN\'S CENTER & ORPHANAGE
1. Land: We are operating on rented premises and therefore need our own land to operate under no tension of the landlord. We are currently trying to fundraise Ushs 22,000,000 about $10000 to secure our own land for the project and we are appeling to any well wisher for a contribution towards this cause
2. Building: We are operating in a rented semi-permanent building and we look forward to building our own in the near future. We need more classrooms for the ever increasing number of children. Your regular support of $100, $500, or $1000 to the Children’s Center & Orphanage will enable the school run its goals well and meet its needs. May God bless you.
3. Transport: We also do face a problem of transporting children to the hospital. It’s a distance of about 5km from the Center to the main hospital. We therefore look forward to having a van for transporting these kids in the future.
4. Health Center & Medicare: We do need a health care centre for easy access of medicine to the sick. It has been a big problem with the shortage of medicine from the main hospital and this has led to the death of many children.
