Postcards from Katrina TM, a grassroots movement, encourages students, youth, organizations and professionals who were affected by to share their stories in the shape of a postcard with poetry and art.
Postcards from Katrina is a community arts project that uses the power of the arts to bring awareness that people in the Gulf Region still need help and hope. Also PfK recognize arts as a creative healing therapy and therapy can be seen as art to share to the world.
Also the project invites all people to share their stories via homemade postcards with original art, photos and poetry to have a voice on issues that matter to you like relationships, transportation, education, race, class, health, environment, and economics.
Pfk wants you to become an ambassador of hope among a sea of despair. PfK believes in the power of arts to empower, motivate and inspire people to be and create the change they wish to have in their lives and in the world.

Background:
PfK holds workshops and events to provide youth the opportunity to critically analyze the impact of Hurricane Katrina, identify ways to improve their community, address social issues, and develop their story in their own voice in a creative way of what issues would 'Katrina' reveal in their lives and communities.
We offer workshops and seminars covering a range issues from media literacy, use of narrative, arts, photography, poetry, and acting for creative self-expression. Workshops can be customized to meet the
needs of your organization. Also we are exploring bring

Through the “edu-taining” workshops, participants will
expand the capacity to think both creatively and critically in addressing issues in school,
home and work. We use happy hours to educate young professionals and get them involved in the project. If you are interested in hosting a workshop for your organization, please email us.
Youth Arts Scholarship Competition Program
Building the next generation of advertisers, marketers and communicators of change…Postcards from Katrina TM welcome opportunities to partner with educational,
community, media, overnment, and corporate entities to provide a creative arts scholarship competition for youth. The program involves a poster competition among three age categories.
Students will compete and winners will be selected. rtwork from the winners will be exhibited at the awards reception and on the PfK ebsite and other PfK partner locations. Scholarships will be based on merit, creative arts
talent, and commitment to community service. Creative arts can include but not limited to a collage, painting, postcard, photography, video, and more.
Objectives:
The purpose of the campaign is to...
1. Promote awareness of social issues raised by Hurricane Katrina and facing the Gulf region
and other communities who need assistance;
2. Provide a creative channel for all people to express their feelings and thoughts of
the social, environmental, political, health and economic impact of Katrina on them
and society; and
3. Support educational awareness to all people, particularly youth, about the impact
of Katrina to critically think and believe they can make a positive difference in society.

Advertising, a Washington, DC-based,
minority-owned ad agency
• Silent auctions at Carnegie Institute in
Washington, DC and at the Society of Public Health Education Annual Meeting
in Las Vegas, NV
• Received support from Representative Juan LaFonta, JD of New Orleans
• Partnered with the Lazarus Foundation as a fiscal agent
• Facilitated a youth media literacy/postcard workshop for the Youth
Ambassadors Academy, a program of Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, in
Washington, DC
• Received postcards from New Orleans minority-owned businesses
• Co-hosted Marketing for Change Mixers to raise awareness of the project
• Received postcards from youth and professionals in the Washington, DC area
• Developed over 10 Katrina-inspired acrylic paintings
• Exhibited PfK artwork at Capital Hill Arts Workshop in Washington, DC
• Received endorsement letter from the Louisiana Legislative Women’s Caucus
