NOVEMBER 2006

PfK has made several strides since its beginning in Spring 2006. In the month of November we have hosted a young professional mixer to get the word out on the project.

We have partnered with Caroline Brewer, a children's book author, who will be donating her book (Kara Finds Sunshine on a Rainy Day) to children in New Orleans.

We will be speaking with youth to develop postcards after her reading on November 11.

On November 12, we will partner with KidSave to have the voices of fostercare children highlighted in the postcards as well.

On November 12, we travel to New Orleans and Baton Rouge to reconnect with residents and organizations and learn more about the issues in the area.

We will be launching a youth arts/writing contest on what Ketrina means to youth as it relates to coping with crisis. We want to increase the awareness of the power of arts to help with healing and building resiliency.

We willl need assistance in fundraising, partnership development, program evaluation, web communications, and event planning.

So we welcome ideas and partners on this effort. We focus on New Orleans and Washington, DC were we have contacts as a pilot project then expand.

We have developed a light launch on Sisters Sharing Stories of Hope and Help with a 10-ad design and outreach at the Alpha Kappa Alpha's Sisters Sharing Conference in Washington, DC in late September.

We have created a presence on several online social media networks to increase a digital grassroots effort for the project via Facebook MySpace, Care2, Taking It Global, YouthNoise, and Blogger.

We are making a Students Sharing Stories of Hope and Help postcard project to add to the flim project called Picking Up the Pieces: College After Katrina.

We will host a PfK event in Oklahoma City in late November.

We have continued to meet with other colleagues in the social cause/arts world to develop synergy, partnerships and collaborative projects. We welcome new partners and opportunties.

We want to bring in the New Year and Holidays with PfK. We will be developing holiday items to raise funds to bring the winners from the arts/wrioting contest to Washington, DC.

So please provide your help in the area of promotions, web communication, event planning, speakers, fundraising, administrative support, program development, and evaluation to name a few.

We have more in store and look forward to your continued support.
