Title: World Youth Congress Policy Document
Location:
Global
Categories: Poverty Child & Youth Rights
Status:
In Progress
Timeline:
Ongoing
Description:
The aim of this project is to get global visibility for the recommendations of the outcome policy document of the World Youth Congress in Scotland 2005.
Objectives:
The first, short-term goal is to get the concept of Youth Led Development onto government agendas in advance of the Millennium Review Summit in September 2005. Ideally, this will involve trying to make contact with the people responsible for planning your country's approach to the Summit, presenting the Policy Document to them and convincing them of the benefits of including YLD into their agendas.
In the medium- to long-term, we aim to get the recommendations of the policy document adopted by those institutions that it is addressing - whether it be governments, NGOs, private sector, or international agencies.
Another, specific, aim of this group is to lobby the World Bank on the issue of their 2007 World Development Report, which is provisionally entitled "Development and the Next Generation". Given the focus on youth, we want to see Youth-Led Development play a significant part in the contents of this report, which is currently in the consultation stage. If we convince the Bank, through our global network, that YLD should be central to their Report, this will be a hugely significant breakthrough in getting YLD it's rightful place on the global development agenda.
