In recent years, eco tourism has exploded onto the scene, bringing with it a sense of ownership and responsibility to eco volunteers regarding people, places, animals and the environment, the world over. Eco volunteering isn’t a new idea. It is a chance to give back to the world, and enjoy the experience of donating your time and energy into a great cause, get your hands dirty, and be part of the solution. But eco volunteering can be expensive, and unfortunately money rarely makes its way back into the communities and on the ground projects, resulting in a distrust and dislike regarding tourism, and tourist activities. Sea The Future SEES THE FUTURE…. And is different to many existing volunteer companies. It offers experiences. And it doesn’t discriminate based on financial income.
Sea The Future takes all the best parts about travel, mixes these with amazing new technologies and ideas and collaborates with local community groups to offer incredible and honest life experiences.
The idea is simple. Engage people! Volunteers, stakeholders, AND local communities in the areas that we are working. Lets make sure that local community groups WANT us to be there. Lets make tourism a positive, GREEN experience. Include local governments and communities in the decision making process. Lets be conscientious consumers! We will use local produce from local farmers, local materials and tradesmen. Train local people to be project coordinators. Utilize home stays and seasonal foods for a truly authentic experience. Lets harness solar power and rain water where possible. Just imagine having the adventure of a lifetime, KNOWING that your participation is TRULY making a difference! Imagine if we could make our footprint next to nothing using new and innovative technologies and ideas!
Starting to get the idea? Sea the Future is about being the change you want to see in the world. No more passive participation. Now is the time for action!
Sea the Future isn’t focused on profits. It is focused on TRUE EXPERIENCES, WORHTWHILE PARTICIPATION, and SKILL SHARING. There are plenty of people volunteering their time, energy and money to a variety of causes locally, nationally and internationally. People do this not because they want the fame or recognition for their good deeds, but because they enjoy helping. It’s in their nature. Isn’t this an even better reason why such individuals then SHOULD be recognized?
As part of the Sea the Future program, such dedicated and passionate individuals will be congratulated for their community involvement. Nominated by their peers, individuals will be offered scholarships to attend projects on a local, national or international basis, free of charge, as a thank you for their recognized hard work, but also to allow knowledge and skill sharing amongst the wider communities.
This project is big. It allows people from around the world to unite, connect, share knowledge and experience, and ultimately to forge a sense of ownership to their community, their projects, and to the world as a whole. When we truly feel responsible for our actions, can we understand that we ARE THE CHANGE we want to see. We can start to TAKE ACTION, and look to the future.
Interested individuals from the world over will all be stakeholders in Sea The Future although the level of their interest will decide the level of their involvement. Local communities, wildlife and the environment around them will all play a crucial role in this project, and will benefit from it. The scientific and conservationist community as a whole, and funding partners, in addition to those parties mentioned above will have active stakeholder positions. But more than anyone else, it is the YOU, the active participants, who are the stakeholders. It is YOU who will benefit from this project. Background:
Project Overview
Sea The Future will exist to facilitate volunteer placement for on the ground research projects the world over. Using local, national and international NGO’s in addition to existing volunteer organizations, Sea The Future seeks to provide individuals from around the world with the opportunity and assistance to unite and connect through a variety of such projects. Using a ‘from the ground up’ approach, our purpose is to create a safe and biologically diverse future for generations to come through research projects, incorporating eco volunteering, to give such individuals the opportunity to partake in new, exciting and unusual experiences, to both learn, and share knowledge. In addition to this, sponsorship opportunities will be offered for recognized individuals (nominated by their peers for passion, enthusiasm and dedication in a variety of fields). All projects will meet stringent measures to ensure communities benefit from tourist (research and tourist) traffic, in addition to ensuring each project is sustainable, supports the local community, and partakes in conscientious consumerism.
The problem and the solution
Eco volunteering has recently exploded onto the scene, with a variety of eco-experiences on offer. Volunteer projects can be found in action all around the world. Some focus on people, some focus on animals, and some focus on the environment. You can find local projects, you can find national projects, and most certainly you can find international projects. But rarely, if at all, can you find this variety of projects on one site. And there is certainly no where (or no company) that offers you these volunteer opportunities for free.
Currently, volunteer companies take large profits, without really giving anything substantial back to any of the people or projects they support. This doesn’t work. To truly involve local communities in projects, they need to see a benefit to having such groups around. Employment, schooling, clean water and electricity are just some examples of relatively simple, yet extremely valuable assets that communities may benefit from, and foresee as a reason for allowing project groups to partake in research within an area.
Sea The Future aims to change the perception often held by local and international groups that eco volunteering is not always beneficial to local areas or eco friendly. By utilizing local people and products, engaging local communities and actively seeking new and innovative technologies to ensure realistic and sustainable practices, Sea The Future will connect people and places with true, exciting and valuable opportunities.
Project Idea:
To create a volunteer program that allows people from a variety of backgrounds and financial situations to live, learn, teach and fully immerse themselves in projects the world over. Using partnerships with on the ground local NGOs and the like, I want people of all ages to be able to enjoy the wonder of, and help to protect, flora, fauna and their ecosystems in a sustainable and proactive way. I want to profits to go back to the projects we support, and to include scholarships, allowing people with passion, but not necessarily the funds, to have the same opportunities. I want people to SEE THE FUTURE as full of possibilities and experiences, and I want them to BE THE CHANGE they want to see in the world.
Purpose
Sea The Future exists to facilitate networks of available volunteer projects locally, nationally and internationally, focusing on flora, fauna and their environments. Sea The Future adopts a ‘from the ground up’ conscientious consumer perspective, ensuring each project is sustainable, helps local communities, and leaves the smallest carbon footprint possible. Using these networks it also offers volunteer ‘scholarships’ as recognition for hard working and passionate people to experience the world and all it has to offer.

Needs:
A variety of resources will be required to initialize the Sea The Future, Be The Change project. Office space, communication equipment, transportation, and travel costs are of primary concern. These objects will essentially make up the majority of our funding requirements. Funding is sought via a variety of sources, including leading aeronautical and automotive businesses, to minimize travel expenditure. More than anything, however, I need personnel and volunteers to get the project up and running as soon as possible. That means you!
