Description:
SGAC-Ug is a student initiative to end the HIV/AIDS crisis in Uganda. Our focus is on the Youth specifically the students in schools at all levels. We aspire to be part of the global network of committed people in the stuggle against HIV/AIDS.
Background:
Started in June 2004, it was initiated by Students at Makerere University Kampala. Our current membership is 170, and we recruit members on request. We work with other student associations allover the country in the struggle against HIV/AIDS.
Objectives:
To provide information to students and other young people about what HIV/AIDS is, how it is acquired and how it can be prevented.
To provide voluntary HIV/AIDS counseling to students in Universities and other institutions of learning.
To encourage voluntary HIV/AIDS testing among students so that relevant help can be given.
To enhance knowledge among students about the threat of the HIV/AIDS pandemic to national development
To be a channel through which Government and NGOs can reach the people especially the youths in the fight against HIV/AIDS, such as providing educative and material help to patients and their families.
To explore how students feel about the current efforts and approaches being used to fight HIV/AIDS, and how they would want to be involved.
Advocating for increase in Government budget to fight AIDS and ensuring that funds are effectively used to grass root level.
