Want to join our team?
Some things to think about before applying for steering committee:
‧ Priority regions for SIYC are Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America. However applications from all regions are still highly encouraged. Up to 3 representatives per region, to form a steering committee of 4-9 members.
‧ Steering committee members should demonstrate influence and ability to organise nationally/regionally (ie. coordinate campuses and organisations at country/regional level), or experience in advocacy/lobbying government
‧ MOST importantly, steering committee members should demonstrate extensive networks at the country level (for Australia, UK, USA) and/or regional level (everywhere else). Broader global networks are a bonus, however they remain secondary to national and regional links.
Responsibilities of steering committee members:
• To collectively set the direction and strategy of SIYC, and to coordinate the SIYC Youth Summit 07 - the launch pad of SIYC.
• To act as the national focal point for SIYC, for your respective countries (and regions where necessary). As such, your organisation should be recognised as an organisation of your country, in terms of legitimacy and influence - it does not matter if your organisation additionally has global operations.

We've been officially selected to head the Singapore delegation to Halifax 2006. This means delegation selection, spearheading policy discussions in the lead-up to Halifax, and - website!

Met with some key people at the High Comm in Canberra over the weekend - Robert Tay (former head of Contact Sg Sydney), Martin Gomes (SIF Hon. Student Councillor QLD), Peter Kong (1st Sec of High Comm) and Joseph Koh himself.
Talked briefly about SIYC, though careful to frame it in context of building national identity. All were excited about the idea.
Robert Tay in particular talked about $65,000 that was set aside as seed funding for another (similar - but more details to come) org that Contact Sg was keen to help get off the ground. Never did, so there is a possibility of getting that money.
But first need to consider possible impact on autonomy. (Don't worry I'm not selling out.)
I think it was good to get these people on side. Their positiong will be helpful to us. If visions diverge too much, we can always disassociate and make our own way.
