Description:
The United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines (UNYAP) will be hosting the National Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Summit for Young Filipino Leaders on December 6-9, 2007 in Silliman University, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental with the theme “B.I.L.I.B. Young Leaders: Stand Up, Move, Lead!” B.I.L.I.B refers to Believe, Innovate, Lead, Inspire and Build. The summit will be participated by the different academic schools throughout the Visayas and aims to enrich the skills of leaders to become better models of the youth and transformed servant-leaders of the country; also, foster youth empowerment towards advocating the millennium development goals (M.D.G.’s) in their respective institutions as well as in their local city through manifestation of effective leadership principles, attitudes and skills gained from the summit.

Background:
The National MDG Summit for Young Filipino Leaders (SYFL) came to rise after the celebration of International Youth Day commenced after the United Nations General Assembly. This summit serves to promote youth participation and address issues concerning them and encourage their involvement in the achievement of programs for sustainable development and technological innovations. Hence, an international strategy was adopted –the World Program of Action for Youth (WPAY) to the Year 2000 and Beyond – to address more effectively the problems of young men and women and to increase opportunities for their participation in the society.

Objectives:
General Objectives:
With minimum facilitation, the participants shall be exposed to various activities related to the topic on MDG’s or Millenium Development Goals, which would provide knowledge on what these goals are for, create an attitude of making changes in the community, and enrich the skills of leaders to become models of the youth and transformed servant-leaders of the country.
Specific Objectives:
By end of the 4-day summit the participants shall be able to:
1. Fully define and understand the purpose of the U.N. Millenium Development Goals
2. Recognize the important role of the youth in the battle against POVERTY.
3. Identify the common issues of today in which the youth can take an active role.
4. Appreciate improvements our nation has currently made
5. Spread the Hope-Feeling that have transcended from the social-interaction
6. To be able to present ideas that the participants can echo to their organization/school/community

Needs:
 Each delegate should bring formal, semi-formal attire for our conferences. Each delegate should bring one filipiniana or barong for our cultural night. Also the delegates should also bring casual attire for the immersion.
 One might want to bring gadgets such as a camera so that you will have some catched memories after the event. A good tape recorder and a portable flash dish, is advisable if you’re into documenting every speech.
 SYFL ID’s pencils/pens. Papers, worksheets, and things needed for the summit will be provided in the conference as part of the workshop kits.
