Description:
Your potential to change the world is simpler than you think. Did you know there are alternatives for using energy? At the rate we’re consuming energy our environment is going to die. We as humans don't realize how much energy we use daily. We are responsible for the well-being of our environment. So if you want a greener life and save money on your energy bill, you should consider alternative energy. By learning on how to switch to solar, wind and steam powered energy your community can be more sustainable. The best part about all of this is you help the environment and you save cash!! By contacting your local BC hydro you can get started on saving energy today.
Our stakeholders for "thinking green" consist of our own community because they are the ones we aim to change. BC hydro because we will help represent them and obtain information and contacts. The local newspaper is a stakeholder because they will help us advertise and spread the word. Lastly the City of Vernon is a stakeholder because we will be asking for support and change from them amongst the community.
Background:
It seems like todays culture of people aren't aware of the consequences of their actions. One of these actions is the abuse of energy consumption. People don't realize how much energy they use on a daily basis. Even if people knew how much energy they were using, they wouldn't have the resources or the knowledge on how to save/cutback on their energy.
Our mission is to educate our community so they have the knowledge on the amount of energy used in their daily lives and for our community to understand the basic knowledge on alternative energy sources. With the proper information, resources and encouragment this is possible
Our vision is to see a greener community that is saving money on energy and is helping the planet by using alternative energy. We want our community to do it's part for sustainability while saving money for themselves.
The purpose of our project is to wake people up to the environmental facts of the present and provide them with the information and resources possible to change how they impact the earth in a positive way.
Objectives:
Our projects goals are:
-Host a small presentation at our local community center to give information on solar panels.
-Getting support, funding and information/contacts from BC hydro so that we can further our campaign
-Have our local newspaper advertise our project and give info on where we are presenting.
-Change one home and one community utility (parking metre, streetlight etc) to alternative energy through solar/wind powered devices.

Budget:
Our project is fortunate in that it doesnt need much funding at all, but can earn lots of money with very little expenses.
Our income is about $1,500 from donations, fundraisers, grants and contributions.
our expenses are about $500 for newspaper advertisement, office supplies, community center rental, posters.
With the extra money we plan to help the community regarding costs in switching to alternative energy
Needs:
One of the biggest needs that our project requires is the support and open minded people of our community to take what we teach to people, and apply it to their life.
