"Tolerance Theater" project presentation
The "Tolerance Theater" project presentation took place on November 5, 2004, at the Miscosoft Moscow Headquarters. The project is being developed by a group of US Department of State exchange programs alumni under the auspicies of American Councils for International Education. More than 60 spectators saw several scenes from Moises Kaufman's play "The Laramie Project." Schoolchildren, students, teachers, NGO leaders, and other TIG members attended the presentation. After the presentation the floor was given to the audience to share their opinions about the project, the play, and the problems raised in it, which soon grew into a heated discussion. Then, the actors themselves conducted a training "Majority/minority." The goal of the project is not just theater for the sake of theater. In this case theater is a means to bring up and discuss very important social problems. After every performance the actors will conduct trainings on the problems brought to the surface in the play. The participants of the "Tolerance Theater" project plan to stage the play and publish the methodological materials on staging and training in the sphere of human rights, civil society, and social tolerance. The publication will be further distributed among various theatrical groups and NGOs.
The informational sponsor of the "Tolerance Theater" project is TakingITGlobal (TIG) www.takingitglobal.org, and you can find its description on the English webpage http://projects.takingitglobal.org/toleranceT.
The first night performance is tentatively scheduled for the beginning of February 2005. The date and venue of the performance will appear on the site later.

We are glad to announce that the first step of our project has been successfully completed. We have finished translation of the play "The Laramie Project" written by an American playwright Moises Kaufman. The translation job has been performed by the team members themselves under the supervision of Professor I.Y. Mostovskaya of Tambov State University. We have already started staging the Russian variant of the play, and on October 20, 2004, the first presentation of the project took place at the Fair of International Education Programs "Opening New Opportunities." You can find the photos from the presentation in the "Project Documents" section.
