Description:
This project aims to establish a knowledge resource center for rural people using information and communication technologies.Once realized this center will be the chief information,communication and knowledge resource center for the people.
Objectives:
This project aims primarily to cater to the information and communication problems of the villagers.It will disseminate proven knowledge to them to solve the real life problems of people.It will try to materialize the successful researches especially into the field of education,communication,media,bio-technology,agri-business etc. into the lives of people that may have the potential to raise the standard of their living.
The main objectives are:
1.To make information and knowledge accessible and available for all.
2.To foster creativity and innovation in education,especially in primary and secondary education.
3.To make science and technolgy work for all.
4.To build an inclusive knowledge society.
I.Information and knowledge for all:We are realizing that the rural people,especially youth is facing immense challenges in harnessing opporutinites to for development as they can not access information and knowledge for development.Village Knowledge Centers or Grammen Gnan Kendras are the practical solution as conceptualized as part of the Information Society Village Project to provide innovative,affordable and down-to-earth information and communication solutions using traditional print resources as well as modern ICTs.
VKCs are the outcome of conceptualizations by the scientist MS Swaminathan.
II.Fostering creativity and innovation in education,especially in primary and secondary education:The essence and significance of creativity and innovation in education has been increased since the introduction of globalization.Such concept has been reiterated in the report of the Delors Commission by Unesco.
Project members are discussing how best creativity and innovativeness could be realistically introduced in the primary and secondary education.It is proposed in the primary and secondary schools of the project location shall be equipped with school media centers with ICTs.That such centers could foster creativity and innovativeness has been advocated by J V Narlikar,asrtrophysicist and scientist.
VKCs shall also be instrumental in assocatiating school goers in accomplishing creative and innovative projects such as modelling through CAD,scietific modelling.
Workshop for teachers and students in science modelling is another way in fosering innovativeness in science education.
Needs:
Realization of this project needs in the first place human resource capable of understanding the project aims and goals and act accordingly.Devoted volunteers are particularly lacking.The project needs also financial help.It will also require hardware and software.
