Hello everyoneI am sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I hope it doesnt discourage your energy!! Schools are starting in Canada and
first week is when we go "shopping" our classes so it has been very
busy and crazy.
Anyhow, i am writing to announce an important
information. I will be approving access to the translators based on
their knowledge of english and vietnamese. If you would like to start
translating, please translate the following paragraph into
vietnamese and email it back to me at : lananh@takingitglobal.org . Make
sure NOT to send your translation to the whole group, and just to my email
as above. Once i receive your translation sample, i will get back to
you on whether you are approved an access to translate or not. Here
is the paragraph you need to translate :"TakingITGlobal (TIG) is an international youth organization with
headquarters in Toronto, Canada. From tiny islands in the
Pacific Ocean to the mountains of Nepal, TIG's popular online
network connects thousands of young people to discuss issues, take action,
and get involved in their community. TakingITGlobal also coordinates several
other initiatives around classroom-based 'global' learning, youth
participation in decision-making, technology services for youth networks and
youth-engagement consulting for international
institutions."
Thank you very much for your patience and i look forward to receiving
your translation samples.Hope everyone have agreat start for school
year.Best regards,Lan Anh

Hello all
I have received a dozen of introduction emails from you all. It was both interesting and exciting to read. Thank you very much. I also want to remind that if you want to send an email to the whole group, you should send
to : vietnamese@groups.takingitglobal.org.
And you should send to lananh@takingitglobal.org if you
want to send an email directed to me.
Many of you have also raised a lot of questions regarding the translation project. I hope you will find all the answers in theÂ
Translation Guide that i will be sending out shortly. However, in this email, i will answer a few common questions that many members have, especially regarding technology problem.
First, my apologu for sending the incorrect link. Here is the correct link for the site :
http://translate.takingitglobal
<1>.Some members are worried about their English language. Now,i say you shouldnt be. We will be helping you to find the session to
translate that are suitable for your level of English knowledge. Moreover, this will be a chance to improve your English and have a fun time getting to know people. You translation will be edited before they are approved so do not be too worried.
<2>. If you are very confident in your English and Vietnamese language, you may want to consider becoming an editor. Basically, the work of an editor is to read over the vietnamese translation and correct them
wherever needed before approving them. The editors will be helping the translators and be supported whenever needed by the Coordinator.
<3> In order to translate, you have to log on TIG with ur account user id. Then you will go to : http://translate.takingitglobal.org
There you will automatically see Vietnamese and next to it is the " i am ready to translate" button. So click right on that. And there you will find a page that had a list of things you can translate including " Core Phrases"
and " Specific Phases".
Under that you will see the " Translator
Contribution".
Just by clicking on any of the boxes under "corephrases" or " specific phrases" you will see the percentage that has been translated. If it is 100% , it means someone else has already translated it. If it says 0%, it means it hasnt been translated so you can start working on those.
<4> Also please keep in mind to be consistent with what you are doing, if you start translating a session then i would recommend you to finish it before moving to another one. The reason is if you chose to
translate a session, others will not have access to translate that session anymore. So it will be highly appreciated if you finish what you start.
<5> The font you can use to view Vietnamese
version is : Unicode ( UFT8) and to view the site in vietnamese, please go to : http://vn.takingitglobal.org
<6> I would recommend you to start translating "Specific Phrases" first because they are the most important for now. In the
meantime, we will be dividing up the work to make it easier for everyone.
I will email you all about it shortly.I hope this help you clear out some confusion for now. If you have any more question, dont be hesistate to write.
Warmest regards,
Ha Lan Anh

Greeting from TIG office in Toronto,
I hope everyone is doing well. Canada is at the phase of late summer so I can feel the chilly feeling in the breezes outside. It’s time for me to start thinking of unpacking winter clothes to be ready for Canadian snow!! I heard it has been raining hard in Vietnam, hope there isn’t much flood and everyone is doing great. If you have any exciting news from home Vietnam, be happy to pass it on to me!
Enough for weather story =). And now moving on the work. But I am sure it will be exciting part of email so don’t be worried!
First of all, I would like to thank all of you for joining the group. I have received lovely emails from some of you showing a lot of dedication to the project. I will do my best to reply to you individually, but for now, thank you everyone. I am already excited and look forward to working with you all in the coming months.
I am writing to you from the TIG offices headquarter in Toronto. I am volunteering here for a week to work on creating and coordinating translation both group and develop TIG site in Vietnamese.
First step of this long exciting process is to create a project site and an emailing group, which I already did. The website is where we will be posting guideline tools, discussion forum, and update on our achievement of the project. The Emailing group is where we will be posting announcements, discussing about the translation project, and all messages will be sent directly to your email boxes. I understand that internet access may be limited for some of you, so you won’t be able surf the website a lot. Because of that, the Emailing group is a less expensive and great tool to communicate with the whole group.
So, I highly recommend you all to add yourself to both the project website AND the emailing group. Again, the addressed are:
Add yourself to Project webpage by going to : http://projects.takingitglobal.org/vntranslation
Subscribe to Emailing Group by sending an email to: vietnamese-subscribe@groups.takingitglobal.org
I am working on developing a translation and style guide for translation of TIG site into Vietnamese, which will provide you with information on how to start translating TIG site. Next step after I send this guide paper to you is we all work together to set out a timeline for what we want to achieve in the next few months, as well as dividing up the work to enhance efficiency and eliminate duplication.
In the meantime, while giving me sometime to finish up the translation guide, I would suggest you visiting the following page on TIG to learn about and get familiar with the translation tools on TIG: http://translate.takingitglobal.org
And while visiting the page, please take notes of any problems of things you do not understand, and post message on project page and/or emailing group so we can find solutions together.
Okay, I think that is pretty much for now. I am excited to work with you all and I hope you all feel the same way! =)
Again, thank you very much for you enthusiasm and interest in this project.
