COMMENT 1

Ten Steps Towards a Multilingual TakingITGlobal.org
3)Create a Guide to Translation
***A) The Translate Tool – An explanation of how the translate tool and its numerous features work
***B) Translation Tips – Advice for new translators (i.e. which verb tense to use in common situations, avoid literal translations, etc)
***C) Technical Terms – A definitive list of the technical phrases to use
***D) TIG Terms – A definitive list of TIG-branded terms (i.e. Global Gallery, Updates, Discussion Boards)
(quote)

Have we had the Guide already? If not ... hmm ...
This will make the transalation more unified. When translating I have encountered some same phrases that were translated differently. I understand that this might happen but in some certain cases we should have an agreement in translating.

Examples:
* "Go" can be translated in many ways in different pages. So the decision belongs to the editors. No idea.
* "thread - um I saw that it was translated into "Chuỗi bài viết". Personally I translated it into "Chủ đề" because in the forum it is totally similar to "topic".

The problem of having differency like that is because we haven't done the step below:
7)Select editors
I just want to know when we have editors.

COMMENT 2

I'm not sure about this but got to say it anyway.
Do we have to care about Capital letters or not? I mean should "Yes" be written "Có" when we translate or "có","CÓ" & "cÓ" are just the same? If they are different, so each of us should pay attention or the ones who check the last time before launching the site will waste time for trifling stuffs.

COMMENT 3

A question! I see that some pages/sections have not been completely translated (<100%), but when I access, there's nothing left to do! I just wanna know why?

That's all for now. See you soon!

Your ideas are most welcomed. These questions are just what bother me the most when I translate, and I hope we could have constructive discussion by confronting these problems communitively.
- About editors: Lan anh and I have been granted the editor function. But in my opinion, it doensn't mean we are the final arbitrators of translating. We are responsible for the Vietnamese version, and we are also open to any suggestions from you. Iam fully aware that translating is a complicated work which requires experiences and knowledge. That matter with " thread" could be the typical example of translating problems which requires serious contribution from the member. As the translator of that phrase, I must admit my unfamiliarity with such typical words used in forum. Understanding is not enough. I have the same problems with words relating to informatics. I know a lot of our project members here have a good knowledge of informatics: bandwidth, router..etc, so I would like your comment on my translating because I must say I have used the dictionary a lot.
To the best of my knowledge, Lananh has built up the translating tool, and the feedback from Pinkie is so precious, and I personally welcome more from other members so that we could have a really effective toolkit.
- about the "<100%" problem, I have no idea, could you specify which part. This might due to technical problems, but I believe we can solve it.
- and then come your own experience. Uhm, we have been rather quiet in your work, am I right? I just like to know how you are getting along, do you have the same problems like I do when translating? We could share experience and discuss, such as giving opinions like Pinkie, and then perfect our skill. What do you think? I just want a more open approach in doing our work.
And about publicizing our page, I have some suggestions, which I see it more fit to open a new thread for them.
Thanks a lot Pinkie,
Best regards

Well, about informatic phrases, the best way is to ask a professional. I think we have friends who knows well about informatics, they are the best dictionary!

I once bumped into the phrase "Your browser does not support inline frames"
>>> "What's the hell is it? Frame yes, but Inline frames?" - I asked myself. Then a friend explained it to me and the translation becomes easier

It happens to me in all parts. You asked me to help you with "About us", but when I access the uncompleted parts there's no phrases appeared to be translated.

my dear Pinkie,
Iam translating that part and they are paragraphs, not phrases along with and so on ( which I believe have much to do with web set up...). Whenever I have finished any part and hit the button " submit translations", it will by default not appear on your left because it has been translated, so when you access that page, you only see the work, not the work done. If you want to see the work done, you have to use the " edit" button. The same happens when u do the translating.Get it? So there is not technical problem involved, I assume.
So you have ur finger on it? great, I hope we could finish that part asap.

Giang ngố chị bảo này

Dear Giang and other TIG members who are reading,

Hope you enjoy our days-off due to ASEM 5 (Hurra!) and have enough time both to relax and to enjoy our "linh tinh" work especially here big grin. I have just translated an enormous bunch of English for Panorama section and some thoughts have just got out of of my head to come to you now.

Well, it is very stupid to translate some TIG specific phrases such as TIG, TakingITGlobal, Panorama, Panorama Zine, Global Gallery,... etc. So in my opinion, we should simply keep those name in English. Perhaps we should also include some certain internet words and phrases like moderator, admin, smilies, ... Hic hic, forgive me, I used to translate cute "smilies" into "mặt cười" and it sounds very "ngố". So Giang and Lan Anh, can you make a standard list of "Untouched words and phrases" :P for instance?

Ahhhhhhhh I nearly forgot this, why are we not given the responsibility to translate the content of UNDERSTANDINGS? I mean what I translated for this part is just the border, not the "significant" content of their writing. I'm much interested in this section because I suppose that they will help Vietnamese Youth much to understand the basic issues of the world that include our country! And only "Mr Sky" knows what youngsters can do after they have been informed and inspired smile. The younger the sooner the better!!!

Now back to the <100% problem I know what you wrote. What I mean is that I see nothing in those sections left to be translated, which means everything is done! Anyway good luck to your translation because I have visited all About us areas and there's nothing left for me to do after my little translation there. Now I'm drowning in Express, more precise i.e Panorama.

Sorry for my talkativeness, I'm gonna stop right now and free you until next time big grin. Have nice days!
Pinkie
