Description:
For this project, we are looking at a new and effective way to tackle poverty hedlong instead of the stereotype way its been tackled now.Since poverty affect the whole nation we have taken it upon ourselves to visit the six geopolitical zone of the country in order to give and have an holistic approach to the true state of poverty in the country. We will visit a 13 states pick randomly from the six geopolitical zones. Then In each of the states two villages will be visited where we will spent at least three days in each of the villages.\r\nIn summary we will visit 13 states, 26 villages and hope to spent a total 80 days in all the villages combine. We will spend three days in each village and are expected to fully participate in all the activities of the community and relate with the villagers in order to understand their plight better. These villages will be mostly farming and fishing communities that are deprived of basic developmental effort and are hardly know or are dejected. \r\nAfter the tour and visitation, the whole experience will be documented and compiled to be sent to print, broadcast houses and government agencies. It will also be presented to the public at a seminar to be tagged \"From the Horses Mouth\". The seminar which will hold few weeks after the expedition and will tour all the states used for the project.\r\nExpected to be at the seminar are the state government officials including the governors and officials of poverty alleviation programme in each state, International development organisations working in Nigeria, Non-governmental organisations, stakeholders, media organisations and private individuals with interest in such programmes. The report will be published by the print organisations and also broadcast in form of a documentary by the broadcast houses.

Background:
Arguably the most common word used in the International Development circle is poverty which to many means different things and has different attribute depending on the angle one want to look at it from. Virtually all the international development organisations in the world has eradicating poverty from the world has one of its core objectives. Poverty is an important goal among the eight Millennium Development Goals of the United Nation which aims to half the number of people living below a dollar per day by 2015.\r\nTo many people around the world, poverty means different things. To some poverty is a deprivation of basic human need such as food shelter and clothing, to others it may mean not meeting up to the standard where one lives or reside which is know as relative poverty while the other is called absolute poverty which is the focus of this project and the one giving the world serious concern.\r\nPoverty is a big issue in our society but how big have we been able to tackle the scourge of poverty in the world, it seems that most of our effort have been that of lip service. To many experts around the world Poverty is the deprivation of common necessities such as food, clothing, shelter and safe drinking water, all of which determine our quality of life. It may also include the lack of access to opportunities such as education and employment which aid the escape from poverty and/or allow one to enjoy the respect of fellow citizens. \r\nThe world is at a stage when it come to the gap between the rich and the poor the law of Karma does not exist and the golden rule of \"do unto others what you want do unto you\" is broken with no after thought. The figures as to how many people are poor alone should make the world stand up and do something more. More than one billion people in the world live on less than US$1 a day , 2.7 billion struggle to survive on less than US$2 per day, More than 800 million people go to bed hungry every day, including 300 million children, every 3.6 seconds a person dies of starvation, and most of those who die are children under age of 5, every year 6 million children die from malnutrition before their fifth birthday. In the Agriculture sector, the African continent, once a net exporter of food, imports one third of its grain, more than 40 per cent of Africans do not have the ability to obtain sufficient food on a daily basis, for African farmers, conventional fertilizers cost two to six times more than the world market price. \r\nNo doubt, we are living in a world of prosperity but how many of the seven billion people in the world today are prosperous? According to the United Nations, in 2007 the Gross World product i.e. the total value of goods and services produced in that year exceeds $80 trillion, if that amount is spread equally among the 7 billion inhabitant of this planet it probably will come to $9,000 for each individual, imagine what that amount can do to the life of a peasant farmer in a remote Africa village!\r\nOn the other hand, that prosperity has an ironic part, a recent United Nation publication reveal that the wealth of the World\'s Three richest individuals i.e. Warren Buffet at $62.0 billion, Carlos Slim Helli at $60.0 billion and Bill Gates at $58.0 billion is greater than the combined gross domestic product of the 48 poorest nations! A United Nation Development Programme publication further shows that over 2.5 billion people are trying to survive on 2 dollars per day not to talk of the over 3 to 4 billion trying to survive on a dollar per day.\r\n\r\nWhy can\'t the poor farmer in the village who produce what the rich people in city are eating have a good place to sleep, good equipments to farm with and money to send his children to school instead of sending them to the farm? Why should people live the productive and peaceful live in the village and go to the rough and disorganised life of urban areas all in search of money? Why so much imbalance and inequality in the society. These are many other developmental questions we intend to answer at the end of this project

There are two major goals for this \"From the Horses Mouth\" Project and specific objectives within each of the goals. \r\n\r\nGoal #1 - To bring the issue of poverty to the fore and lay bare all the facts in real practical and more realistic way.\r\nObjective #1.1 - To provide a platform for the poor ones in our society to expressed themselves\r\nObjective #1.2 - To considerably bridge the gap between the poor and the rich one thereby creating a just and equitable society.\r\nObjective #1.3 - To devise methods through experience that will be gained from the visit that the government can use to further tackle the scourge more effectively. \r\n\r\nGoal #2 - To some extent helped the poor to have their own deserve share of society prosperity which are been enjoyed more by the rich.\r\nObjective #2.1 - To effectively reduce the rate of poverty among rural dwellers.\r\nObjective #2.2 - To persuade exporters of agricultural product bought from the rural farmers to pay them more than what they are currently paying the local farmers.\r\nObjective #2.3 - To improve the earning and purchasing power of the people and also increase the standard of living of the poor ones that this project is directed at.
