Description:
We are looking for volunteers - especially teachers or people learning to be teachers - who would like to run a one-month holiday camp. Each volunteer has a group of about 30 - 35 children. The children are tutored in the morning and then, after lunch, they are offered different activities such as sports, handicrafts, music, dance, etc. It is up to the volunteer to decide on the activities. Each volunteer has a Kenyan teacher to work with.\r\nThe volunteers pay their own traveling expenses and insurance when needed. LLK provides room and board in a safe and relatively modern house and the project manager provides all forms of assistance necessary for the success of the project. Three to four volunteers are needed per holiday camp. The children are extremely poor and appreciate the volunteers work.
Background:
We organized a summer holiday camp in August 2009 and it was a huge success. You can see dozens of photos taken by the volunteers on our website. It was a life-changing experience for the three of them - and will be for you too! Nobody can teach you more about life than the children you teach!
Objectives:
We want to give children who usually would never even dream of such an experience,the chance to be happy, funny, silly and creative.
Budget:
The cost of the flight to Kenya depends on where you are coming from of course. You may want to have travel and health insurance, but that is your own decision. LLK provides room and board for free.
Needs:
Volunteers bring everything with them that they will need for the activities that they plan to do with the children. The children love to make things - draw - sing - dance - make music(cal instuments) - read and play act - and of course soccer and handball!!!
