Description:
Eighteen years after Quincy Jones initiated the world famous “We are the World” campaign, the Glocal Forum, in strategic partnership with the World Bank and the Quincy Jones Listen Up Foundation, launches a new campaign called “We are the Future” designed to secure a better future for children in conflict areas around the world.
The objective of the We are the Future (WAF) program is to set up child centers for children living in conflict areas and across the developing world, while building global city-to-city networks to support these centers. The We are the Future Child Centers will provide opportunities and services for children in the areas of education, health, nutrition, ICT, sports and the arts.
Six pilot WAF Centers are being established in:
• Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
• Asmara, Eritrea
• Freetown, Sierra Leone
• Kabul, Afghanistan
• Kigali, Rwanda
• Nablus, Palestine
Objectives:
The municipality identified the Hamdi Manko Cultural Center as a suitable venue to implement WAF activities. The Glocal Forum is in direct communication with Mayor Shakah in order to complete the process and receive more information about the facilities. The first step of the cooperation will be to establish a tele-center in April 2004, to coincide with the inauguration of the WAF Center.
