Description:
Webbing the Islands will be an international Internet-based educational program of projects that uses various text forms, and performing and visual art collaborations to explore the cultural, economic and environmental questions facing islands and island peoples.
Background:
Webbing the Islands was orginally presented as part of Tasmania's International Arts Festival, Ten Days on the Island in May 2005.
In July 2005 the Tasmanian Department of Education and the University of Tasmania adopted the project and it is currently being redeveloped.
Objectives:
To Empower Island Communities.
Milestones:
November 2004 - launch of website
April 2005 - Ten Days on the Island happens.
April - June 2005 Contributions from Island schools around the world.
July 2005 - Move to University of Tasmania.
2006 and beyond???
Budget:
Seed funding of $10,000 which will last until April 05.
Needs:
* Contacts within island schools and universities,
* Redevelopment of the website,
* Funding for Co-ordinator positions, admin costs, ICT costs and flights.
* Partner Organisations in the fields of the arts, media, events, science and business.
