Hey everybody!

Welcome to YDP USA-Canada's webspace. On this page, you will find information about who we are, space for discussions and documents and opportunities for networking. You will mainly see the work that we have done over the past year, and as time progresses, you will get the opportunity to view and participate in all sorts of updates. If you are just joining our network, please take a moment to fill out the "Youth Groups and Organizations" Wiki with a little bit of information about yourself so that we can know you better.

Thanks a lot!

Any further questions, comments or concerns about the usability of this project page can be directed at me via email: toronto@clc.takingitglobal.org

Congrats to our newly elected Chair and Vice-Chair. I, along with I am sure everyone else, look forward to working with both of you as we build an effective youth network across North America.

Documents from the YDP NA Retreat

We had a productive retreat and worked hard to put together a document that would outline the vision and mission and structure of the YDP NA as well as outline the upcoming conference.

I've posted these documents under of course the documents section.

Regarding the next YOH! conference, the set date for this conference is June 5-6th at World Bank Headquarters. There is already a committee in place, mainly comprised of retreat participants, actively working on conference preparations. The planning committee has already started a google group:

http://groups.google.com/group/ydp na.

If you are interested in helping to plan the conference please join the google group.

If you have any questions about any of these documents, please feel free to contact me or any of the retreat participants whose names are listed in the retreat document.

Once again, I would like to thank everyone for their commitment in working towards developing the YDP network in North America.

All the best,

Mitty

Hi Everyone!

The minutes from Monday's meeting has been posted on the documents section. As you will see, we covered many issues and I believe we are making progress. During the meeting I proposed a YDP NA Interim Task Force Retreat at the end of February. The purpose of the retreat is to meet physically as a group and work for a concentrated amount of time, without distraction, on solidifying the development of the YDP NA network and begin planning as a group, the next conference, to take place May or June.

By the end of the retreat, the group should develop a concept paper or constitution that outlines the 'governance' of the YPD NA network with concrete action plans for the next 6months, 1 year and beyond. The documents we have been working on would contribute to the overall concept paper, but needs to be refined. I think we can do this best by brainstorming as a group. Therefore, I propose we meet in Washington D.C. at World Bank headquarters Feb 28th-Feb 29th. For logistical purposes, we would meet for a half day on Feb 28th and all day Feb 29th. I hope this date works for most people.

Guidelines: We have limited funding for this retreat, therefore can only provide transportation and accommodations to a few individuals most in need. Those that have been participating in the discussion on an ongoing basis (that is, have participated in at least one meeting and/or have contributed at least once to the online discussion to date) will take precedence. Others will be reviewed on a case by case basis. In addition, we ask that only one representative from your organization attend the meeting. Finally, as with the YOH! conference, we are asking participants to share rooms and send us the best flight deals. If possible, please have your arrival time by noon on Feb 28th. If you can attend the retreat, send email me the following information below (brief answers are fine) by COB Feb 14th. I will send a draft agenda for the retreat, the following week once I receive this information.

One important item I didn't get a chance to mention during the meeting is how we can include youth in Mexico in the YDP NA framework. This would be one of the items I would like to propose during the retreat, so please consider this prior to the meeting. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I'm looking forward to meeting in person again and working towards this important initiative!

Mitty
