Description:
SCVG- youth for and by youth organization, working for the YOUTH of Myanmar

Strengthening peers’ power together with peers

By capacity building of, close mentoring and supporting youths to become able to make difference for community

*******************************************
My project idea is to create a “Youth for Community” project. Briefly, it is to recruit potential socially committed youths living there and to empower them to be able to start their own community development action plans which will be supported technically and financially by the project at first and we will phase out when they become powerful to stand on own feet.

STAKEHOLDERS of the project

Primary stakeholder - youth residing in 20 selected townships
Other stakeholders
- Parents
- Schools
- Local community
- Ministry of Home affairs
- Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement
- NGOs with similar projects

Background:
In Myanmar, our country, young people are major population like in many countries. However, unfortunately, many youths are under-using their abilities and powers. Their time are usually consumed by sitting for hours at teashops, doing things waste their precious time such as playing games all the day. Due to unfavorable conditions like restrictions on association and expression of thoughts/opinions, the present generation, our youths have no interests on community development issues at least for their local area and have a few chances to develop themselves as well. They are under-employed and even graduated youths have to compete for a low-level post like clerical staff.

I choose the project because local youths can be empowered by the project to commit for their development. At the same time, youth can get valuable skills and experiences which are favorable for their future career opportunities. Also community perspectives on youth will be improved.
